Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noël
Yikes, the first week of December has gone!
We did buy some Christmas cards and I have even written some of them but I think today was the official last posting day to guarantee delivery in time.
So, sorry, your card will be late. As will the presents.
It's been a busy couple of weeks you see.
Last week was the one year anniversary of us arriving in Canada. On the day itself we celebrated by going to get my Canadian driving licence. We know how to live it up.
I took my test in Leeds and the Canadian government have a deal going with the British that allows a direct exchange of one licence for the other, so I just had to queue up, hand over my old one, and $75 (!) and they will send me a brand spanking new one. I had to do a bit of an eyesight test too. Which was just reading increasingly small numbers from a yoke* on the desk.
This was a bit worrying for me as the dyslexia often makes me get numbers arseways.
It seemed to go ok.
Another reason for celebration was, as I mentioned, the Mammy's divorce. Believe me this was a good thing. And not a sad occassion in any way.
The rest of our time has been taken up with bottling our latest batch of wine, shopping for the Christmas presents and today we bought the tree.
Normally we leave getting the tree till December 20th or so. Which wasn't a problem in our old house, with it's 12 foot ceilings. The only ones left then are either midget trees or one the King of Norway didn't want. Now with 9 foot ceilings we have to be a bit more organised.
One of the Churches on Danforth Avenue was selling trees with the profits going to a homeless charity, so the nice woman sold us an eight footer. Would it go in the hire car? Feck, no.
In the car park, in the process of negotiating with said greenery, a woman waiting in her car for our space (we thought) actually offered to put it in her car and drive us and it to our house.
Last year we were struck with the whole " it's not Christmas, it's The Holidays" thing, but you know what? in this part of Toronto, it is Christmas, at least I think that's what the Greek sign says. I'll get a photo tomorrow and maybe someone will be able to translate.
*yoke- an object. similar to thingymabob.

Yoke-or as we in the States call it-a do-hickey.
Cutting down our tree today- vividly remember the year it almost flew off the top of the car. The kids were young and their father taught them several new words.
Taffy
always good to work on the vocabulary( even if you can't spell it!)
you go cutting down trees?
