Goooaaallll
It's going to be difficult to avoid the World Cup in the coming weeks so, here it is ANOTHER blog post by a woman who knows next to nothing about the beautiful game.
I do actually quite like international football, it's good to see the different styles countries have, just not League football which has too much hatred based on things like the colour of their shirts or supposed regional differences(bit much when most of the players are from all over the world).
Then again that all applies to the World Cup too, so I have just lost my own argument. Moving swiftly on.
It's a shame that Ireland are not in it. I still remember sitting on the edge of my seat watching Pat Bonner save that penalty in 1990.
There is such a mix of people in Toronto that there is bound to be some bar somewhere in the city cheering on their team. So now I just have to pick a team.
Suggestions and a good reason why please.
In the mean time have a look at these links:

Amanda,
As a typically ambivalent Canadian towards soccer/football, I have to admit to paying attention at World Cup time. Today's Sweden versus Trinidad Tobago match? Unbelievably exciting. The utter dejection(Sweden) and rabid jubilation(Trinidad-Tobago) over a nil-nil draw? Truly amazing. After today I have my team!! TnT, mon...all dey way!!
ok, so one vote for the rabidly jubilate TnT...
World Cup...meh. As a typical 'capitalist Amerikan pig', I don't really care about the world cup. Hopefully the U.S. team doesn't win, though, because it would be kind of unfair to the rest of the world if the country that doesn't care about soccer beats a country that really cares about soccer and thusly wants to win more than us, ya know?
seeing as how the US was beaten 3-nil I don't think there is much danger of them winning the final, so that will be a relief to you.
It's an interesting sport with more scope for style/skill/flair than baseball or american football, if you give it a chance
Amanda,
I'll give you the s/s/f of soccer over North American football, but must disagree with the baseball analogy. One of the most difficult things to do in all sport is to hit a Major League thrown baseball. It's why even the pros fail at it roughly 7 times out of 10. Something I do enjoy about soccer is that it is one of the last team sports where normal sized men can still compete. Here in N.A., hockey, football, basketball and even baseball players just keep getting bigger and bigger. The lack of scoring is what will keep soccer from ever gaining anything more than cult status in North America.
omar, I know NOTHING about baseball, (watched about 20 minutes in total, just thought I'd brazen it out!). The only sporting event I have any interest in is the Tour De France.
